Omagh 'Storymap' 2017
Omagh Memorial Garden and the Strule River
As part of the Derry/Londonderry Sounding Conflict Project in Northern Ireland, we asked research participants working with Musicians without Borders, to create narratives related to sound, place and conflict from their perspective, using Storymap. Storymap is a tool developed by ‘Knightlab’ at Northwestern University in the United States which enables users to construct narratives with a strong sense of place and movement, and for our purposes, also a strong sense of sound.
Here, MwB participant Valerie Whitworth moves along the Strule River in Omagh, County Tyrone, starting her journey with a reading from the Omagh Memorial Garden, which commemorates victims of the Omagh Bomb of 1998, before following the river’s flow past new developments in the town.
